June 2017 Real Estate Ezine: MacPherson

We hope that this doesn’t sound like blowing our own horn, or as bragging, but there was an event recently that made us think about why we do what we do.  We are members of the Real Estate Investment Network (REIN), a national organization with over 2300 members that focuses on research and education related to real estate investing, and that also provides a great networking opportunity for people in the industry.  We have been members for over seven years now, and in recent years, we have taken on a more active role in trying to help other investors learn the best steps to successfully create an investment portfolio and to take action to move forward. On June 13th, we were pleasantly surprised to be honoured by the REIN organization at their annual awards event with not just one award, but with two awards.  We were recognized as Innovative Investors of the Year for our work in developing techniques and practices that go beyond just the vanilla style of investing, and for our actions in supporting REIN by bringing guests and new members to the organization.  We also received the prestigious Michael Milenaar Leadership Award for our efforts to support others.  As well as being a source of information and advice for many investors, we host regular events to share information and for investors to connect with each other, as well as hosting a monthly game night in our home to expose interested people to the world of real estate investing using a popular board game.

In accepting the award, we commented on the fact that people ask us why we do what we do to support others.  We reply that we enjoy helping others to succeed, and that we are willing to help others because we want to give something back to the community that helped us get to where we are now.  We believe in the abundance principle, rather than the scarcity principle, and that there are enough opportunities to satisfy everyone who is willing to do the work to achieve success, so there is no need to not help others move forward.  The best news is that, with our investing style, we can help both those who want to be hands-on in their investments and those who prefer a more hands-off style of investing.

If you would like to learn more about what we do and how we do it, watch for an invitation to a webinar we will be holding this month.  Best wishes to all of you.

About the month of June:

June is the sixth month of the year in the Julian and Gregorian calendars and one of the four months with a length of 30 days.  June in the Northern Hemisphere is the seasonal equivalent to December in the Southern Hemisphere and vice versa.  In the Northern hemisphere, the beginning of the meteorological summer is 1 June. In the Southern hemisphere, the beginning of the meteorological winter is 1 June.

June is known for the large number of marriages that occur over the course of the month. According to one etymology, June is named after Juno (Hera). Juno was the goddess of marriage and a married couple's household, so some consider it good luck to be married in this month.

A Laugh or Two For Good Measure!
"Grandpa, why don't you have any life insurance?"

"So you can all be really sad when I die."

A nice old lady on a bus offers the driver some peanuts. He’s happy to take some and, munching, asks her why she isn’t having any herself.

“Oh, young man,” she says, “they’re too hard on my poor teeth, I couldn’t.”

“Why buy them at all then?” wonders the driver.

“You see, I just love the chocolate they’re covered in!”

Why Invest In Real Estate?

If you are like most people, the idea of riding the stock market ‘roller coaster’ makes you feel a little queasy.  The highs can be a lot of fun, but the lows really give you a kickin’ (and there seem to be a lot more lows than highs for most investors).

While real estate also follows a cycle, it tends to be a much more gradual one.  Investing in revenue properties offers us limited immunity from fluctuation

This means that you don’t tend to see the massive ups and downs of the stock and commodity markets.  It’s a much gentler ride, and tends to provide very solid returns on investment over the long run.  This is another reason I prefer real estate investing over other kinds of investments.
